Day 37 & 38 – New Routine..

Ok I am going to change how I blog as to do it every day is just not possible for me (as believe it or not I do have a life) LOL..

So as of Sunday I will start reporting every Sunday and give a summary of my weeks efforts..

Well Day 37 – I was still sore from my work outs on Mon & Tues so relaxed.

Day 38 (Thurs 6/3) I booked myself in for a reprogram at the gym, as the old routine was getting a bit boring and had to work 3x as hard to get my heart rate up.  Strange though I feel a lot more healthier but I have gained weight – mmmmm..

My new routine consist of Treadmill for 28 mins (mix of walking, running, uphill walking).  Then on to the Rower for 1500 meters at a pace of 35+ strokes per min on level 8-10 (may sound easy but try it)

Onto the Cross Trainer level 10 for 10 minutes and maintain 75rpm, then level 15 for another 15 minutes again maintaining 75rpm.

Just the cardio session alone takes about 50 minutes, then on to the mats for abs (leg raises, ab cycle, plank on a stability ball) as many as I can – averaged around 20-30 x 2. (abs are now killing me :( )

The Personal Trainer did give me some other bits to do, but was so tired that gave it a miss today but will eventually build it in.

Total work out time was around 75 mins.
KCal 750
Max HR 162
Avg HR 137

Well until next time folks and keep spreading the word to get people donating.

Day 13 – 36 – Keeping at it..

Apologies with the laziness in updating my blog.  Rest assured I have been training and many people have started to notice that I have toned up a lot.  I just thought repeating the same thing over and over again would get a very boring read.

I haven’t been on the road cycling since day 12, however I have averaged going to the gym about 3-4 times per week.  Each session I burn around 800-900 kcals.

Am due for a reprogram at the gym on Thursday so that will vary my work out, I have also been going to the various classes – my favourite ones are Spinning & Boxercise.

On Friday 22 February I attended a event called “Unleash the Power Within” by Anthony Robbins.  Was an amazing experience and during the event I walked over a bed of burning coals.  Having now done it can say was easy but while your standing there in front of the burning coals believe me it is scary.  If anyone has fears then I really suggest doing it, as if you can do that, you can do anything you put your mind to.

Likewise people say I must be crazy doing my cycling event, but to me as long as I put the effort in it should be a stroll in the country lanes J plus it’s the excitement which gets my blood pumping.

Off to Spinning tonight so have a fantastic day guys and thank you to all those who have sponsored me to date.  Have managed to raise over £900 which is brilliant.  Just need to get the rest who have said they will sponsor me to actually do it.

Will try and not leave such a long gap between my next post.

Any feed back on the kind of information you would like to read about is appreciated, as I feel alone out here..

Until next time

Day 12 – I want to ride my bicycle

What a gorgeous morning today (Sat 9 Feb). Woke up and looked out the window and thought the perfect day to go cycling.

Dusted the old cobwebs of the bike only to my horror I find that my gloves and helmet have been infested with mould :(

Not letting that put me off, I went to the bike shop and purchased some new ones as couldn’t be bothered to sit there and waste another hour cleaning my old stuff. I also treated my self to some proper clothing so purchased a base & middle layer. I swear cycling is an expensive sport. Still need some cycling shorts but will have to wait for another day.

Anyway now that I am kitted up went home and got dressed, adjusted the seat etc and away we go.

The route I planned took me from my home – Maidenhead – Windsor – Datchet – Langley and back home.

Was lovely cycling along the Jubilee River which runs parallel to the M4 between Slough & Maidenhead, a very nice man made river, lots of ducks, swans and marshes.

From Maidenhead I had to go via the A4 after breathing in fresh air the pollution from the cars affected me and was coughing a while (remind me to buy a face mask for future) I don’t know how some cars pass their MOT with the amount of fumes they giving out.

To get to Windsor from Maidenhead got on the A308 very busy road and people drive like maniacs, some nice scenery – will check out Bray Lake one day.

In Windsor – normal views of the Castle was being a bit naughty ducking and diving in between the traffic then on to Datchet, Langley and back home. (nothing exciting here just the A4 and some other roads).

Thought I would be very tired but I am actually feeling fine. I stopped for about 3 minutes at the level crossing and my heart rate dropped form 151 to about 116. Any health experts know if this is good or bad? Please do let me know..

Total distance of 23.85 miles in 1h 30, Max Speed = 24.5mph, Avg Speed 15.2mph, Max HR = 165, Avg HR = 147, Kcal Burned = 1235.

Considering I don’t have a bench mark so not sure if this is good or not, will do this route again and will compare.

I didn’t feel out of breath at all during the cycle, legs are feeling a little tired but I’m sure a good stretch and hot bath will sort that out.

Total Duration: 61mins – Max HR = 177, – Avg HR = 155, KCal = 905.

Day 8 & 9 – Abs of Steel & Legs of Jelly..

Really wanted to go to the gym yesterday (Tuesday) but the shoulder was still in pain so thought will rest a bit more.

Today even though it was still painful, I had enough and went anyway.  In a way I am glad I did as its amazing how just one week with out proper exercise affects you.  I stayed away from the weights and concentrated on cardio only.

Did Cycling for 20 minutes first 10 mins at 65rpm to warm up then the last 10 mins as fast as I could.  I averaged around 95rpm or around 19.2mph.  Can’t remember how much distance I covered but was around the 9km mark.

Then on to the Cross Trainer – 20 minutes. Varying the speeds and levels.  Average speed around 70.  Total distance just under 2km.  Its really strange you can work so hard on that and cover hardly any distance..

Then onto the rowing machine.  The gym instructor told me to do this particular setting, you set the time interval to 30 seconds where you row as fast as you can then a 30 second rest period.  Repeat this 5x.  It is very hard, if you don’t believe me try it.  I managed to get around 50 strokes per minute which is pretty good going.

After the interval rowing I did 2000 mtrs, averaged 33 spm and took just under 9 minutes to complete.  Need to try and bring this down to around 7:30/8 mins.  Will get their slowly as before used to take around 10 mins so I am improving.

The rowing also helped to stretch my shoulder muscles so its feeling better.  I do recommend rowing for people out there as it gives a very good all over body workout and low impact.

To finish it off I did some ab work – they going to hurt tomorrow LOL, well considering putting all this work into it – need something to show for it ;)

Total work out time: 1:11, 973 kcal, Avg HR 147, Max HR 171.

Day 6 & 7 – Click Click Click..

Due to continuing shoulder pain I didn’t go to the gym again yesterday :( the pain was very intense this morning so went to the Osteopath who has now clicked me back into shape – relief at last..

He advised to take it easy for another day to let the muscle calm down as it was trapped.  Looks like another day without the gym.  Maybe I over did it before by going nearly 5 days in a row, so once I am better will build up the intensity slowly.  As don’t want another week without the gym.

At least on Tuesday I get to collect my bike so can go cycling as of Wednesday.  Already been asked to visit people by cycle.

The sponsorship side seems to be going well less then one week in and already raised over 30% of my target.   I once heard a saying to find out who your true friends are, is to ask them for money.  Its amazing how difficult for some people it is to find £1 for sponsorship but they have £100’s to go out.

If we as humans were just honest and say No/Not interested that’s fine you are allowed.  I am not going to take it personally, as I only want people who genuinely wish to support me.  I guess it all boils down to people wanting to look good.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has supported me to date..

Day 4 & 5 – No Pain No Gain..

Due to continuing pain in my left shoulder I am still taking it easy. Am watching what I eat and stretching the muscles so hopefully they will be loose for Sunday Spinning Class.

Dropped of my bike for a service so now that the days are getitng longer (even though freezing) I am hoping to go out on the Road as of next week and see what lovely sights our country has to offer. Which reminds me I do need to buy myself a Cycle Map of my local area and some cycling shorts..

Have a fantastic Saturday.. until next time..

Day 3 – Ouch..

Unfortunately injuring my left shoulder has left me out of action today.  I did walk for about 15 minutes but I don’t have any statistics on how many calories I have burned etc.

The sponsorship did well in the first two days raising £390.  however there has been no activity since, when I speak to people they say they will sponsor so im not sure why they haven’t yet.  Maybe they are waiting for the weekend?

I have disabled showing how much each individual person has sponsored me in case some people only wish to donate a small amount so they don’t get intimidated by others who have donated large amounts.

Since the event is a few months away I will monitor and still ask people but not push until early March when I will send out reminders.

Day 2 – Endurance..

Even though technically I been training since boxing day for my cycle ride, officially it is day two.  I have been to the gym non stop now for 6 days – my muscles are hurting and am feeling the strain as while doing Circuits today I pulled somethng as a result the left side of my neck is in pain.

I stayed commited to the session as I have made a promise to everyone who is sponsoring me and to myself.  July seems such a long way away but I am sure the time will fly by.

Todays session was a mixture of different stations ranging a boxing bag, sit ups, sprints, star jumps, press ups, lunges and skipping.

I do feel I am getting fitter as it is taking more effort to get my heart rate up and if I stop for just a minute my heart rate comes down very quickly which im guessing is a good thing.

I also checked my weight today but it still the same even though all my clothes are now loose on me and I do feel more toned.  I do need to sort out my eating as I know I am eating less as the thought of having junk food is putting me off but the other problem is I hate cooking for myself :(

Ok todays stats:

Duration: 52:57  – HR Max 162, Avg 135 & Total KCals 612

Hopefully my neck will recover for tommorow so will do a light work out otherwise will attend the Khaibo session on Fri.
